Winter photography comes with its own set of unique challenges. Lenses fog up. Fingers get cold and won’t work. Clients get cold. Weather can be changeable and unpredictable. Locations may not be accessible on the shooting date. The list can grow longer if I wanted it to; but here’s the thing. Those winter photos you get done are a testament to your dedication to keeping alive the memories of today. It takes more work on both party’s parts but the end results can be amazing! There are just as many opportunities to make meaningful and fun images in winter as there are any other time of the year. Planning and adaptation are both very important. Clients have to remember to do the same things you do for other winter activities...dress in layers, stay hydrated, move around to keep the blood moving and generate body heat, and be prepared for changes. Most of all, come to the shoot with the idea of having fun and making the most of the season’s conditions. Don’t be afraid of the cold weather...there are still great photos waiting!
